The line-up of performers for this year’s Afropunk Festival has just recently been revealed and alongside internationally acclaimed superstars SZA, Damian Marley and D’Angelo, Nigeria’s very own uncrowned King of Afrobeat, Wizkid, is billed to headline the highly anticipated show.
The Afropunk festival is one which promotes positive social and political messages of equality and inclusivity, and at the same time encourages self-expression and non-conformity.
The 2018 edition of the festival boasts of a diverse line-up of performing artistes from across the globe and is scheduled to hold on the 14th and 15th of July at the Grand Halle de la Villette in Paris.
Apart from Wizkid who is one of the shows headliners, Nigeria’s Nneka will also be performing alongside other talented global acts such as Gary Clark Jr., Trombone Shorty, Goldlink, Estere and The No Face.
Fans of Wizkid must already be anticipating the superstar’s Coachella performance which is billed for next month and promises to be arguably the biggest performance of Wizkid’s international career till date.
It therefore comes as very pleasant news that the superstar is billed for yet another major international performance, this time as one of the headliners, barely a couple of months after his Coachella outing.
We celebrate and salute Wizkid and Nneka for pushing the frontiers of Nigerian music this far and – by so doing – keeping the Nigerian flag flying high on the international scene.
