After the 62nd Grammy Awards, Angelique Kidjo is now the most awarded artist in Africa

Angelique Kidjo had been nominated for the best world album at the Grammy against people’s favourite Burna Boy.

Her nominated album is dubbed ‘Celia’ which peaked in the top 100 in the Billboard charts. Celia is Angelique Kidjo’s 17th studio album.

Angelique kicked off the Grammy weekend with a performance of her hit single ‘Afirika’. She got people in the crowd dancing and chanting to the famous chorus, “shee mama, shee mama, Afirika.”

That was the pre-Grammy show. She was then awarded with her Grammy, making it her fourth Grammy.

Upon receiving the Grammy, she had earned her 4th Grammy Award through her career. Besides that, she has won other 100 awards from different arenas.

These vast from Kora Awards, Mobo Awards, AllAfrica Leadership Award and many more. She was also be inducted into the Afropop Hall of Fame in 2009. With all these awards, Angelique Kidjo is then the most awarded female or actually all gender artist in Africa.

She gave a heartfelt speech and warned the industry that they are not ready for the new lot of artists Africa is about to give them and really dedicated her award to Burna Boy. Check out her album ‘Celia’.
