Nigeria’s alternative music maestro Olawale Ashimi, better known by his adopted stage name Brymo, was on the recent episode of “Rubbin Minds,” and spoke with the show’s host Ebuka on a number of subject, including why he is not on talking terms with Chocolate City boss M.I. Abaga.

On his music, Brymo said he loves to employ shock value to get the attention of his fans. In this respect, he has apparently done well. One gets glimpses of shock value employed in offerings such as “OSO,” “Heya,” “Let Us Be Great” and “Ba’nuso.

Brymo was once signed to M.I Abaga’s Chocolate City (Records) but left soon after. That is a phase of his life he was unwilling to dwell on. And On the reason he has not been on good terms with the head of his former record label, he said he just could not explain. He just happened not to be on good terms.

Brymo, a one-time brand ambassador to the Lagos State Chamber of Commerce and Industry, rose from the dust as the son of a carpenter to become one of the critical voices in Nigeria’s music scene.

His second studio album “TheSonOfAKapenta” is his attempt to gain perspective as the son of a carpenter. Brymo is no longer in the dust but on a plush divan.
