Davido Talks About His Wireless Performance, His Love for Africa & More In New Interview With Pause UK Magazine

Only last month, he was on the cover of GLAM AFRICA magazine in its “Africa Rising” issue. Now DMW boss Davido has made it to the pages of Pause Magazine in the United Kingdom.

He fielded questions with the Pause Magazine team on his music and the Diaspora, his experiences as a musician, and much more.

Asked how he came to be an artiste, the EMA award winner, who was born in Atlanta in the United States and travelled back and forth between his country of birth and Nigeria, said he got into music through some friends who were already into it.

He also admitted following his cousin NPZ to the studio in the early years before he smashed into the music scene and into the consciousness of Nigerians.

Davido also did not consider himself one who struggled at the outset in the music industry in Nigeria. He rather thought himself lucky because his very first rcorded song, titled “Back When,” resonated with he listening and made him consider taking music fully and seriously.

On this move, he said he was grateful for the support of his parents, who remain his number one fans to this day.

Davido, whose brand of music is mostly afrofusion, used the word “crazy” to describe afrobeat of which he is a key figure, and happy to be one, for, well the world loves afrobeat.

He describes “Fia” as one of his most touching songs to him, as it was more of a dedication to two friends and colleagues he lost in quick succession.

Although he was born in the United States, his favourite countries for any performance are all in Africa – Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, South Africa, Libya – you name it.

Davido, who performed at the London Wireless Festival early last month, was asked about his performance there. The singer did not mince words. Said he: “Great. They tried to cut me off and shi*t but the crowd was like f*ck that.”

Yeah. F*ck that. What is important to him is that the crowd is always wow. Welcoming. And that is just about enough for the star who has live concert January 22, 2019 at the O2 in London.

So, in a few months, it’s London again. Viva Davido!
