Blackface Explodes Over 2Baba’s N50 Million Lawsuit

Friendship is a beautiful experience and something to be sought. In a friend you have someone with whom to share your hopes and dreams, your fears and insecurities. And when things don’t work out for you, you have someone on whom you can lean without fearing depredation.

Welcome to the world of friendship. However, when the veins of friendship rupture, or friends no longer see eye to eye, the result can be a monstrous ocean of bile and bitterness, of hate and anger, of accusations and counter accusations, and, in extreme cases, murder, or suicide, or both.

Out on the music scene in Nigeria, we are seeing this play out, the rupturing of a nerve of friendship, between 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) and Blackface Naija (Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo), two once dear friends and band members of Plantashun Boiz.

Blackface Naija claims to have written “African Queen,” which 2Baba released over a decade ago to critical success. But 2Baba stoutly denies Blackface Naija had written the song.

Not done with saying he had written “African Queen,” 2Baba went to court and sued Blackface Naija, claiming damages (for defamation of character) in the sum of N50 million.

Apart from “African Queen,” Blackface Naija also claims to have written Let Somebody Love You,” a song to which 2Baba claims part ownership.

On receiving a notice of the law suit against him, Blackface Naija uploaded it to his Instagram page, and said was ready for the lawsuit.

He seems in face in earnest, for he was said to have confirmed this to a news source. Said he: “My lawyers are taking care of the legal action. Maybe you will be in court to follow up the proceedings, if the case gets to that level because that’s where we are going right now.”

The public awaits the outcome of this suit. Time will tell in whose favour the suit swings.
