If emerging reports are anything to go by, then Nigerian serial hit-maker Runtown runs the risk of being arrested over claims by his label, Eric Many Records, that the artiste sponsored the story of his rumoured sex tape, to tarnish the label’s image.
In a now viral alleged chat between Eric Many Records Owner, Prince Okwudili Umenyiora, and a popular PR agent identified simply as Kevin, it could be deduced that Prince Okwudili threatened to leak Runtown’s sex tape in order to deal with the singer.
This of course occurred after the label slammed Runtown with Federal High Court injunction restraining him from performing and recording any new music until he meets with the label’s demands.
Eric Many has however issued a disclaimer distancing itself from the allegations. The label has denied being behind the alleged sex tape leak and has even gone ahead to launch an investigation alongside investigative agencies to arrive at the truth.
According to the statement by Eric Many:
“Preliminary findings have revealed that the released sex tape and Whatsapp chat purportedly leaked by Runtown’s label is totally fake and a badly executed stunt by the artist himself. Investigations have led to the capture of a suspect (name withheld) who confessed to using a fake Instagram account to spread the false sex tape leak on Runtown’s request.
“We have maintained from the beginning of this saga that Eric Many has a verifiable court injunction against Runtown and we’ll not resort to blackmail or cheap social media stunts as we believe in the rule of law. Investigations are on-going as regards the leaked sex tape story and we’ll let the law take its full course.”
In reaction to the development, Eric Many General Manager Johnson Adumike said the label would not let itself be drawn into a media war with Runtown, stating that label made Runtown and would therefore not destroy him.
A former Eric Many staff who is close to Runtown allegedly compared trying to use a sex tape to black mail the singer to using a bottle of whisky to blackmail a drunk.
We can only hope that this discord between Runtown and Eric Many comes to an amicable end sooner than later.
