Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Falana make VogueWorld 100 List
For the first time ever, popular fashion and lifestyle magazine, Vogue has released a list of 100 “People Who Are Inspiring Us Right Now” dubbed The VogueWorld 100, and we’re proud to announce to you that Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy and Falana made the cut.
According to Vogue, The VogueWorld 100 – of which this is the first edition – is a curated list of distinctive creative voices from around the globe, encompassing actors, artists, musicians, athletes, stylists, activists, chefs, choreographers, videographers, beauty fanatics, glamour girls, and wonderful weirdos of every stripe.
Leading Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage who was described as an accomplished Afropop and R&B singer-songwriter from Nigeria with a taste for Gucci logos and bold streetwear was featured in the category for Instagram accounts you should let feed your fashion creativity.
This isn’t at all unexpected considering how often the diva has been compared to global fashion icon and pop superstar, Rihanna, for her bold and unbridled fashion statements.
Nigerian Dancehall sensation Burna Boy was also featured on the list. According to the artiste whose recently released album “Outside” is still receiving rave reviews, concerning his taste in fashion, he has never been one to follow trends. He prefers to blaze the trail by creating his own unique style.
The serial hit-maker further revealed that the legendary Fela Kuti and the ’90s in general influenced his fashion style. In Burna Boy’s words, “as soon as you see something that Fela would wear, you just know that’s his. That’s what I learned from Fela Kuti.”
The third Nigerian music celebrity on the list was the critically-acclaimed Afro-fusion superstar Falana who was featured as one of five women whose hair are a living work of art.
Falana disclosed that she decided to try out a variety of natural styles ranging from waist-grazing tassel braids to her signature pom-pom plaits after an embarrassing incident she experienced when her wig flew off her head during a group workout class.
