Burna Boy Makes Shocking Revelation: “I Wrote 5 Songs For Drake’s ‘More Life’ Album”

Many of us were aware of that time when internationally-acclaimed Canadian rapper, Drake, and Nigerian Reggae-dancehall superstar, Burna Boy, met and apparently spent some good time together. What we however would never have imagined was that Burna Boy submitted 5 songs to Drake when his ‘More Life’ album was still in the works.

The ‘Run My Race’ hit-maker made this big reveal during the private listening party for his forthcoming album, ‘Outside, which is billed for release tomorrow. While answering questions posed by The Beat FM’s Douglas Jekan (who served as the anchor for the event) about the album, Burna Boy explained how he met Drake in London, and how they ended up working together on the project Drake was working on at the time, which ultimately turned out to be his record-breaking ‘More Life’ album.

“I worked on 5 new songs for the project, and submitted them all,” Burna said.

Explaining that he got confirmation from Drake and his team that one of the songs he wrote, ‘More Life’, would make the cut for the album, Burna Boy revealed that the song did appear on the album and even went ahead to become the album’s title track – only in a different form.

Burna Boy unfortunately didn’t get due credit for writing the song on ‘More Life’, which of course became Drake’s 7th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and set a new streaming record.

According to Burna, his ‘More Life’ was reworked and sampled at the outro of the record in a manner that was practically unrecognisable.

“They told me they had picked it, but when the song came out, it was…chopped.” Burna Boy said.

The 26 year old musician has however expressed that he has moved on from that experience, and that, once ‘Outside’ is released tomorrow, his fans can enjoy his original version of ‘More Life’.
