D’banj Conferred with Chieftaincy Title in Imo State

Not many people can boast of starting their new year by being recipients of chieftaincy title conferments, but Nigerian Afrobeats singer of international repute, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, definitely can. The superstar popularly known world over as D’banj was recently honoured with a chieftaincy title in the Nigerian Eastern Heartland, Imo state.

Loyal fans of the veteran artiste would easily recall his 2008 hit song, ‘Igwe’, on which he famously sang about receiving a chieftaincy title everywhere he goes. This time, the iconic Kokomaster, who is most popular for his chart-topping global scorcher, ‘Oliver Twist’, was conferred with the title “Enyi Ka Nwanne (Friend Who’s Better Than a Sibling) of Amuzi” in Obowo, one of the 27 Local Government Areas in Imo State.

The ‘It’s Not a Lie’ hit-maker, who was gracefully adorned in the Igbo chieftaincy regalia known as ‘Isi Agu’ (because of the conspicuous lion-head pattern embroidered on it) was flanked by his friend and business partner, Mr. Damian Ifeanyi Okoroafor, as he received the honorary title.

The General Manager of entertainment outfit, DKM Media, Mr. Franklin Spice, shared photos of the merry traditional event on Instagram and captioned them thus:

“I was there to witness this Greatness beyond border, tribe, tongue or language. Congratulations @iambangalee The ‘Enyi Ka Nwanne of Amuzi Obowo Autonomous Community in Imo State. More feathers to your cap Osinawata buru ogaranya 1 of Igboland.”

With the conferment of this chieftaincy title, D’banj – who welcomed his first child, Daniel, with wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow – joins fellow Nigerian celebrities Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Tonto Dikeh, Amechi Muonagor and Ngozi Ezeonu who have all recently been conferred with chieftaincy titles.

We say many hearty congratulations to the self-acclaimed Eja Nla, and wish him a fantastic 2018 as we look forward to whatever he has up his sleeves for the year.
