The verbal indiscretions of Zlatan Ibile and Naira Marley seem to be costing them heavily on many fronts, including freedom. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had picked the duo alongside three others on May 10 over internet fraud.
The genesis of his arrest may be traced to Naira Marley’s observation on Instagram and elsewhere that internet fraud is not criminal. Somehow he was using the slavery of the black race centuries ago as justification of internet fraud, also called “Yahoo.”
Naira Marley’s observation chagrined much of the nation, with artistes intervening the way the saw fit. Simi literally ostracized Naira Marley – you may say completely snubbed him. Naira Marley had to release a new track titled “Am I A Yahoo Boy” in collaboration with Zlatan to explain everything.
The EFCC was unimpressed and picked Naira Marley and co and detained them. There has been a national conversation about their arrest and detention since. The conversation, of course, is ongoing.
Nigerian producer Rexxie has joined the conversation by saying out loud that the EFCC should release the detained artistes. He made the call via a track titled “Free Dem Boys.” Well, what do you think?
