She may not verbalize it directly to you, but one thing Kenyan songstress Nadia Mukami will not hide from you is that is not exactly easy. That was what one gleaned from her previous release “Si Rahisi.”
Now she has come up with another banger that can rival “Si Rahisi,” a music video titled “African Lover.”
Mukami Mwendo is the young song diva the world has come to know as Nadia Mukami. Her marriage to music began way back in high school, when she wrote and sung poetry and tried to interweave it with Afropop.
This melding of disparate genres is yet reflected in her songs.
The first motivation to record her songs came from a colleague in a supermarket where she once worked. The result of this little push from her friend was the song “Narudi,” which dissects a prodigal lover.
In “African Lover,” Nadia Mukami continues the trope she began in “Narudi,” but with a much mellow voice, a mature flow and a better understanding of her craft and what really works. Wine sure matures with age.
The result is a brilliant video and vocal delivery that flatters your hankering for aesthetic elevation. Nothing pedestrian. You should see the video.
