South African Hip-Hop music group, Dreamteam refresh our playlist with recently released single, “Young Mandela” and it is breathtaking.
Dreamteam is a South African music group consisting of Mthoko Mkhathini aka Dash, Lusaso Ngcobo aka Saso and Trevor Sineke aka Trey.
The childhood friends, Dash and Saso were initially part of a hip hop dance crew until 2011 when they formed a trio with Saso’s older brother’s friend, Trey. Their first gig as a trio was in a popular spot in Durban called De La Sol to which the crowd responded favourably. Trey serves as the executive producer for the group and all three members rap on all of their songs.
Their debut major single, “Tsekede” from their mixtape “The Blow Up” was released in 2013. The mixtape was well received, gaining over 12,000 downloads and over 500 hard copies sold in March 2013. They soon enlisted major South African rapper, AKA, and fellow Durban music group act, Big Nuz on “Tsekede” (remix), which turned out to be the summer anthem for that year.
They are also popular for several hit singles like “Ask Enibhadi” and “Izass“. Dreamteam earned their first nomination at the South African Hip Hop Awards in 2013 for Freshmen of the Year.
On “Young Mandela“, the Dreamteam deliver a highly creative performance and set the bar with this one.
