The king of Kadongo Kamu Music, Fred Sebatta returns with another potential chart-topping single “Musango Gwa Bazadde”.
As a boy, Fred Sebatta was surrounded by music, at home, school, in the farm and church. He soon became the lead singer at Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) feats in school, which led to his interest in a performing career.
After trying his hand at different jobs including teaching, Fred Sebata wrote to Dan Mugula Kadongo Kamu Cultural Company and was accepted. His first show was at White Nile in 1981 and he fell in love deeply with music.
Fred soon took the bold step to record his first album, which he titled “Sam Wange” in 1981 with his fiancee Nabigumira. “Sam Wange” was an instant hit and yielded a lot of money and he went on to record “Sekiriba Kyataka”.
The Ugandan artiste soon developed his niche using his music style to not just sing but pass messages. Addressing his musical style, the veteran singer explains:
“Kadongo Kamu is a chance to celebrate as you learn. I can talk to a thief without offending them or talk to an elusive partner without naming names like in my song Narwewuba in which I was talking about infidelity.”
He further explained that unlike today’s music, traditional Kandongo Kamu takes longer to record and the tunes come from a guitar and basikimba (a beat with fine notes). Although the genre weakens both in content and listenership the musical lord is still going strong.
Fred Sebatta has over twenty albums to his name and his well renowned in the Ugandan music industry. He is well-known for songs like “Nalwewuba”, “Kirimanjaro”, “Gambling”, “Teriba ddogo”, “Gwanga Mugye”, “Gologosa” and lots more.
As expected, Fred Sebatta remains true to his roots and has outdone himself on this track.
