Finally, after such heightened anticipation and expectation, Nigerian’s reggae-dancehall singing and song-writing sensation, Burna Boy, released his latest album ‘Outside’ as scheduled on the 26th of January, 2018.
The album’s release comes right on the heels of the exquisite private listening party at the WéRé House in Lekki, Lagos on Sunday January 21, and the subsequent ‘Outside’ experience – a release party at The Curtain Hotel, London – where Burna Boy treated a good number of his fans to performances of some songs off the new album.
Burna Boy, who recently claimed to have written 5 songs on Drake’s latest album, ‘More Life’ – particularly on the track titled ‘Get It Together’ featuring Jorja Smith – has created a massive amount of publicity about ‘Outside’, and it’s our opinion that the artiste’s efforts were definitely worth it.
‘Outside’, in honest, simple terms, is definitely an all-round masterpiece. The 13-track project was preceded by hit singles “Sekkle Down“ featuring J Hus, “Koni Baje,” and the particularly scintillating “Heaven’s Gate,” featuring Lily Allen.
One track which ardent fans of the perennial hit-maker anticipated the most was the project’s opener, ‘More Life’, due to all the buzz created about the song, particularly by Burna Boy himself who revealed during the listening party that it was one of the five songs he originally wrote for Drake.
Released from the stables of Atlantic Records, ‘Outside’ is already looking to be Burna Boy’s most critically acclaimed album yet, as we clearly see a side to the versatile artiste – who has managed to stay relevant in a music industry such as Nigeria’s which is intensely competitive – that we haven’t quite seen before.
